That Grape Juice Essentials: Top 5 Ariana Grande Songs That Should Have Been Singles

Published: Wednesday 6th Oct 2021 by Ryan

What do you get when you mix an iconic voice and an even more remarkable career? Well, you get Ariana Grande.

With a music career nearly spanning a decade now, Grande has released countless hits and has garnered several signature songs. However, what happened to those songs that could have been hits?

This time, we stroll down the lane of what could’ve been had those tunes been released.

Join us below as we countdown That Grape Juice’s Top 5: Ariana Grande Songs That Should Have Been Singles

5. Bloodline

As each Ariana Grande album has been released, she has defined herself more as an artist. One of those notable qualities is sass. Case in point, ‘Bloodline’ from her ‘Thank U, Next’ album, which is an ode to wanting someone in your bed, but nothing more. A missed contender for song of the summer, ‘Bloodline’ has all qualities of a smash hit – horns and a reggae beat lay the groundwork for Grande to set her boundaries. With this song, Ari has created something as essential as the very blood in our veins, something we cannot live without.

4. Greedy

There’s no denying the absolute pop mastery that is Grande’s ‘Dangerous Woman’ album. At its very core lies tight rhythms, funky grooves, and ear-worm lyrics. This is most evident on ‘Greedy,’ a synth-funk track that would give the likes of Prince a run for his money. Her no-apologies singing lyrics, paired with the key change on the final chorus result in one feeling and one feeling alone, pure euphoria.

3. Safety Net

The pairing of Ariana Grande and Ty Dolla Sign resulted in the best combinations since peanut butter and jelly. Ty Dolla Signs brings his chilled, reverb drenched beats and pairs it with Grande’s sultry delivery for a song that is equal parts sexy and dangerous. Will she give in? Will she back out at the last minute? Grande leaves these questions unanswered. However, in the absence of answers she gave us a radio-ready tune that stands among some of her best work to date.

2. Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart

There is an undeniable pop sensibility that is spread across Grande’s ‘My Everything’ album. It is packed to the brim with heart racing beats and over the top production. Nevertheless, the true strength of the album lies within the quieter moments. Case in point, ‘Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart.’ This Harry Styles-penned tune puts the breaks on a string of pop bangers and reflects a more personal side to the project. While the words barely scratch the surface to her pain, her voice lifts the heartbreak to new heights, heights she has rarely seen since.

1. Everytime

With the huge success of ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ and ‘God Is A Woman,’ Grande could have kept the string of hits alive with this radio-ready and fan favorite tune. The track offers no answers, only the repeated behavior of returning to a toxic relationship. Anchored by a skittering trap instrumental, a pounding backbeat, and warbling synths, this Max Martin-produced cut could have been her first chart-topper. While it never happened, the track nonetheless stands among ‘Sweetener’s most savory offerings.

Cute list but Bloodline is #1 imho and I’d include my hair and nasty too.

  2. HotBoiRay October 6, 2021

Spot on with Everytime at #1. Bloodline should be #2 and definitely add Nasty to the list!

    • Aj October 6, 2021

Everytime was actually released to US radio

  3. Danny Bey October 6, 2021

BAD DECISIONS should be #1 on everyone’s list. That song is criminally neglected and should’ve been a massive pop hit. Imagine that song going off in an arena/stadium!?

    • Gag October 6, 2021

      Oh yes that’s true!

    • Bardi Gang’s Finest October 6, 2021

Bad Decisions had ‘radio-hit’ written all over it

  4. Gag October 6, 2021

I agree with Safety Net and Everytime both fan favs too

  5. Meme October 6, 2021

Everytime is my favorite song by Ariana. I really wish it was a single. Safety net is also beautiful.

  7. Rikwaa October 6, 2021

Everytime is the ONE!!! God I love that song

  8. Rikwaa October 6, 2021

Borderline should have got more love! That was a summer BOP! One of her best best, people didn’t get her pairing with Pharell but they did some great stuff together!

    • OMG LOGIC October 7, 2021

Sweetener is still her best album to date. That album has aged very great. All the song on that album were a moment, but I don’t know if I would pick Boderline as a single. It is actually good and one of my best from the album.

When I think of singles from that album, I think of Get Well Soon or Rem.

      • Danny Bey October 7, 2021

        Dangerous Woman* best album.

        But Sweetener a close second

  9. AJ October 6, 2021

    • Dont blame me blame ur motha October 6, 2021

    • Keeping it real 💯💯 October 6, 2021

      POV is a single.

    • Danny Bey October 7, 2021

      It was one.

  10. Chris October 6, 2021

    This was fun.
    Per album:
    Lovin’ It
    Break Your Heart Right Back
    Sometimes
    Everytime
Probably Bad Idea even though I don’t care for it, any of the first four tracks (Imagine, Needy, NASA, Bloodline) would’ve been fine 4th singles.
I haven’t listened to positions enough to make an informed decision

  11. Jorge October 6, 2021

excuse me.. how is everybody missing out “Motive”!! That should’ve been a single over that 34+35 remix 🥺

    • Levi October 6, 2021

      Absolutely agree!

    • Danny Bey October 7, 2021

      YES!

    • Gag October 7, 2021

      True

  12. OMG LOGIC October 7, 2021

Everytime is a banger, but it had no single material. It sounded like one of those catchy album fillers. I don’t agree with you on that one. I would have opted for REM, and I’m still mad that she didn’t do them visuals for that song. It was a very pretty single and would have been a classic. All these are wishful thinking considering the sweetener era was cut short.

Bloodline is very much like Side to side, Bad idea was more of the better late album single if any were released.

You were actually spot on with with Greedy. That song had summer hit written all over it and it still sounds fresh today.

With the positions album I would have opted for Safety Net or Love Language. My hair was great, but it is better off being one of the deep cuts on that album.

  13. Los October 7, 2021

You guys got them all correct! Especially bloodline!

  14. TC October 7, 2021

Dang am I the only one who loves Hands On Me?
